About us

Macumba Online (macumbaonline.com.br) is an educational website dedicated to sharing and preserving knowledge about Afro-Brazilian religions, including Umbanda, Candomblé and other traditions of African origin. Our mission is to challenge stereotypes, promote respect for religious diversity and offer quality information to the Brazilian public.

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store and protect information about visitors and users of our website.

We recommend reading this policy. Collection of statistics through Google Analytics depends on your choice in the statistics notice; simply browsing the website does not activate this collection.

Data we collect

Browsing data

When you access the website, the hosting provider and advertising services may process technical information, such as your IP address, browser, device and the page accessed, to deliver content and advertisements. These services process information under their own policies.

Information you provide voluntarily

The website’s forms handle the information you enter in different ways:

  • Virtual Terreiro form: your first name or nickname, selected request and optional description are processed in browser memory. This form’s code does not create an account, save these fields in cookies or local storage, or send them to a server. We do not ask for an email address or date of birth in this experience.
  • Contact form: your name, email address, optional phone number, subject and message are assembled into a draft in your email app. Our team receives that information when you finish sending the message in that app.

Google Search Console and Monetag statistics

We consult aggregate Google Search Console reports about the website’s presence in Google Search, including impressions, clicks, queries and pages. We also consult Monetag reports about ad delivery and revenue. These reports are not generated from the fields of the Virtual Terreiro form.

Google Analytics

If you accept statistics, we use Google Analytics 4 to measure visits, pages accessed, traffic sources, devices and interactions with the website. The service uses browser identifiers in cookies and processes technical connection data. We do not describe this data as completely anonymous.

The events we have implemented record the start and completion of the Virtual Terreiro experience, use of sharing buttons, clicks on related content and opening a contact draft. We do not send names, email addresses, phone numbers, request types or form text in these events. Page URLs sent by our code exclude query parameters and fragments; for external referrers, we use only the website origin. Google signals and ad personalisation through Analytics are disabled in this integration.

How we use your data

The data collected is used exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Improving the user experience: analysing usage patterns to improve navigation, performance and accessibility.
  • Responding to contacts and requests: replying to messages sent through the contact form, including questions, suggestions and content corrections.
  • Traffic analysis: understanding which content generates the most interest to guide editorial work and improve the relevance of publications.

Note about the Virtual Terreiro: the form generates an entertainment message in your browser using the first name or nickname and the selected request type. The description is optional and does not change the generated message. The form does not register the request on a server or perform in-person rituals. Sharing buttons use a generic message and the website link, without names or request details. This describes how the form works; third-party services loaded on the page follow their own data-processing policies.

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Here is how the form and the services we use relate to this storage:

Virtual Terreiro form

The form’s code keeps its fields in memory during the experience and does not use cookies to save your data.

Google Analytics statistics

Analytics is loaded only after you accept statistics. It may use cookies such as _ga to recognise visits in the same browser and measure sessions. Search Console is a separate source and does not depend on Analytics being loaded.

Advertising cookies

Our advertising partners, such as Monetag, may store cookies in your browser to display advertisements and measure audiences.

Managing preferences

Use “Analytics preferences” in the footer to accept, decline or change your choice about Analytics. We save that choice in your browser’s local storage for up to 180 days. You can also manage cookies and storage through your browser settings.

If you decline, we do not start Analytics collection. If you withdraw a previous permission, we stop new measurements and attempt to remove Analytics cookies accessible on this domain. Withdrawal does not automatically delete data already received by Google. This preference controls only Analytics; it does not disable advertisements or Monetag services.

Language preference

When you choose a language or choose to keep the current language, we save the value pt, en or es in your browser’s localStorage under the key macumba_language_v1. This preference remains until you change it or clear your browser data. The language suggestion checks navigator.languages locally on your device, without geolocation or sending that language list to a dedicated server. It offers a link to another language and does not redirect you automatically.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data to third parties under any circumstances.

Data sharing takes place only in the following situations:

  • Voluntary sharing: when you use the WhatsApp or X / Twitter buttons, the platform you choose receives a generic message and the website link. Your use of those platforms is subject to their policies.
  • Google Search Console: we consult aggregate data about Google Search results in accordance with the Google Terms of Service.
  • Google Analytics: when you accept statistics, browsing and interaction data is sent to Google to produce website usage reports. Processing may take place outside Brazil. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Monetag: an advertising partner that may place cookies in your browser to serve advertisements. Its policy is available in the Monetag Privacy Policy.
  • Legal obligations: we may disclose information when required by law, a court order or a competent authority.

LGPD: your rights
